Investigator Initiated Studies

Chiasma is committed to furthering scientific knowledge and understanding within our areas of strategic interest. To this end, we look to support independent research initiatives that may lead to improved patient care, driven by thoughtful design and innovation. These unsolicited investigator-initiated studies (IISs) are clinical or non-clinical studies that originate from and are conducted by academic or non-industry researchers without Chiasma’s participation. These research entities are responsible for meeting all regulatory and legal requirements pertaining to the management of their IIS. Chiasma will make provision for funding and/or product for approved IISs.

Investigational grant proposals aligned with our research priorities of interest have a higher likelihood of funding, however all applications will be reviewed. Examples of such research priorities of interest include acromegaly and alternative dosing (i.e., de novo, symptom control, pre-operative studies, etc.) as well as other non-acromegaly indications such as, but not limited to, neuroendocrine tumors, postprandial hypotension, G.I. fistula, congenital hyperinsulinism, polycystic kidney disease, chylothorax, and neurogenic orthostatic hypotension.

All applications submitted to Chiasma are reviewed by a cross-functional scientific review committee. Applications are assessed for merit and clinical value, potential impact on patient care, and adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.

All study activity must be executed by the investigators and their institution. As such, all responsibility for the study to be conducted in accordance with approved protocol and under applicable regulation falls to the institution. Chiasma will only fund IISs with institutions that are able to demonstrate adherence to the highest ethical and scientific guidelines. Chiasma is not obligated to accept any IIS requests, and requestors may not assume a request has been approved until notified. Approved requests are further subject to the execution of an appropriate agreement.

If you are interested in applying for support of an IIS, please complete the Study Concept Form and send to [email protected]. This form requires supplemental information such as a list of involved investigators and a breakdown of expenses. Please allow 6-8 weeks for review. We will inform you if the concept is committee-approved, after which we welcome the submission of our Full Application Form.
